The Bethany Bullet - Week of November 20, 2016
Christ the
King Sunday brings the church to the end of its year. That’s right; this coming
Sunday is Advent I.
In
King Jesus we see a completely different kind of King:
V His crown is
made of thorns; His scepter is a spike, not resting in but driven through His
palm; His robe was draped on Him not to reveal His pomp but to mock His
promise.
V He cares not
about gaining or maintaining power. In fact, Jesus gives up all His power
for those who are powerless against sin, the sod and Satan’s accusations.
V He comes not to
claim His share from all, but to share all that is His with those He claims.
V He comes not
demanding but offering.
V He comes not
seeking to send others in harm’s way for His temporal gain, but going into
harm’s way so others through Him might attain eternity.
V
He comes not simply rule the subjects of His kingdom, but rather
share His kingdom’s rule with the simplest of His subjects – for this purpose,
so that in and through us the world might see a completely different kind of
King – ours Christ Jesus.
