The Bethany Bullet Sermon Message - Week of January 7, 2018
In many Christian
communities households mark their doors at Epiphany season with CMB and the
date of the New Year. 20 + CMB +
18 for instance.
CMB
happens to be the first initials of the names of the Magi according to
tradition: Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar.
CMB
also is the acronym of the Latin prayer: Christie
Mansionem Benedicat (Christ Bless this House).
"The
Magi on coming into the House where the child and his mother Mary were bowed
down and worshiped him; and opened their treasures." (Matt. 2)
The greatest gift
in that house was of course the One who received the gifts of the Magi.
As the Magi entered
the house in which Christ dwelt on the first Epiphany, during this Epiphany
season I invite you to seek Christ's blessing on you, your family and your home;
(whether or not you mark the exterior).
Pray with those who
dwell in your home:
"The
Magi of old Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar followed the star of God's Son who
came to dwell among us. Christ, bless this house and all who follow you,
with whom you promise to remain, throughout the New Year and always.
O
God, you revealed your Son to all people by the shining light of a star.
We pray that you bless our home and all who enter here with your gracious
presence. May your love be our inspiration, your wisdom our guide, your
truth our light, and your peace our benediction; through Jesus Christ, our
Savior and King. Amen."
