The Bethany Bullet - Week of January 31, 2016
“The Hereafter, Here and Now:
Hear! Now!”
Text: Jeremiah
1:4-10
Most of us
remember the “Can you hear me know?” commercials. God too has a wireless network, it is called,
“His
people.”
That others
might, “HEAR NOW” the promises of
God, He
appoints His people to speak.
While radically different in terms of look, language, and location each
of God’s children receives this call.
- If God can use 8 year old Josiah and 80
year old Moses…Can He not
use us?
- If God chooses both a PhD in Pharisee (like
Paul) and a man who only knew life on the sea (like Peter)…Can He not choose each of us?
- The Lord who called someone with a
questionable past (like Mary Magdalene) and someone with a questionable
passport (like the Samaritan)…Can
without question call any of us!
- He sent one who was completely new but
pressed into service (like Rahab) and some who had been with them from the
beginning but had not yet been tapped (like Matthias)…So too He sends each of us!
No matter
where you come from or what you’ve come out of, no matter if you’re brand new
or for as long as you can remember you’ve been a part of…God declares that through
you He intends for others to “Hear” Him “Now!”
The matter
of “Hearing Now” is a matter of the HereAfter
on two levels. First, we are to
communicate the promises of God made complete in Jesus and those all ultimately
flow into the promise of eternity: The HereAfter.
At the same time we are called to speak so the work of the church might
continue here…after we are gone. The way we use our words and wallets, both our
day to day work, and the witness of the way we live our daily lives are means
through which others “hear” Him “now.”
