Thinking
about giving something up for Lent? Ready, Set, Go…
Consider
“giving up” three evenings. On two of
them go see the films entitled Son of God and Noah, and then on the
third evening join us for Jesus, Java
& Jive on Sunday
night on April 6th.
Desire a greater discipline or more costly “give-up”? Consider “giving up” the price of a couple of
tickets, a bucket of pop-corn and a soda and invite an un-churched friend to
attend both films with you and then bring them to our Jesus, Java & Jive event as well.
Mark begins his Gospel with the words, “The Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
(Mark
1:1) Through the telling of the events of Christ’s life in Mark’s Gospel no
one, other than a demon who is quickly silenced, identifies Jesus as the Son of
God until the climactic scene of Mark’s account when Jesus bows His head and
gives up His spirit and a Roman solider testifies that, “Certainly,
this man was the Son of God!” (Mark
15:39 - GW version)
The Son of God is not only the title given Jesus in Mark’s
Gospel it is also the title of a major motion picture about Jesus that opened
this past weekend at some local theaters. To view the trailer, go to www.sonofgodmovie.com or click HERE
if you are reading this online to see the trailer clip.
Long before
Jesus sat in Peter’s boat or calmed the sea, Noah built a boat and rode out the
tumult of the world wide flood. Jesus,
God walking among us, had a human ancestry that included Noah (Luke
3:36). That ancestor Noah we are told, “…walked with
God and was a righteous man.” (Genesis 6:9).
Like his great, great, great,
great...grandson Jesus, Noah’s story will also be spilling onto screens in
theaters soon. Noah the motion picture opens on Friday, March 28th. For
a view of the trailer go to www.noahmovie.com or click HERE
if you are reading this online to see the trailer clip.
On Sunday night April 6th at 6:30PM
we will host a Jesus, Java and Jive to discuss these two films. RSVP to the church office 562-421-4711 or
email your RSVP to Cindy Morrison (cmorrison@bethanylutheran.org)
in the church office by April 2nd.
