John 3:14-17

14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[a] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[b]

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

From this, the most well known of all Bible passages, we learn that the generous life gives out of a heart filled with love (for God so loved) despite the cost (gave His only Son).

God gives out of His great love and He gives despite the great cost of Christ’s sacrifice.

The response of God’s people is to live generous lives in turn; for a heart filled with love for God believes that God who acted in the gift of Christ is the same God who acts in the gifts of Christians.
