The Bethany Bullet Sermon Message - Week of March 1, 2020
Sermon Message: “A
God Who Would Suffer Such Indignity”
Text: Matthew
4
"The Spirit led
Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil." Lent begins with the account of an event
arranged by God, an experience directed by the Spirit in which Jesus will face
temptations familiar to each of us; and not for a second even consider
"giving in" to the temptations.
Temptations we've faced. Question
God's sufficiency (why are you going without?); Doubt God's honesty (given the
circumstances can God's promises be trusted?) Deny God's supremacy (count stuff
or self or both above God).
Jesus suffers this
indignity (He who is The Way, Truth and Life, is willing to be questioned,
critiqued and cajoled by the one whose path is destruction, the father of lies,
and seeks the spiritual and eternal death of God's children) and through faith
grants us His identity.
